Welcome

The Veterans’ Widows (ers) International Network International Network, Inc. (VWIN) was founded in Denver, Colorado in March 1995.   VWIN is a non-profit organization solely sustained by dues and donations.

Our mission is to
  • Inform veterans' Survivors of benefits for which they might qualify,
  • Help them gather documents needed to substantiate and submit their claims,
  • Direct them to where they will receive best attention,
  • Keep them abreast of legislative changes and news affecting our benefits, and
  • Give all a sense of togetherness with other Veterans’ Widows (ers).

And our goals are

  1. To definitely reverse the Law destined to apply a 29.6% Medicare/Tricare for Life deduction from Medicare Doctors reimbursements fees.
  2. Eradicate the SBP/DIC offset.
  3. Lower down the “10 years waiting period” to five or 7 years.
  4. Review and amend the unfair $100K death gratuity benefit solely reserved  for OEF/OIF casualties
  5. Increase monthly benefits for DIC survivors.
  6. For HR Bill 4403 regarding DIC survivors access to overseas Space-A travel introduced by Rep. Walz to be finalized.
  7. Proclaim a yearly Day of Recognition for all Veterans’ Widows & Widowers and finally,
  8. to relocate and upgrade the “In Memory Plaque” on the Washington Mall.

Edmee Hills 1927-2011

Picture
Edmee Hills, one of the founding members of VWIN and National Chairperson for 16 years, passed away on October 8, 2011 of complications related to colon cancer.  Edmee worked tirelessly on behalf of military veterans widows and widowers to ensure they understood and obtained all the benefits afforded them.  She worked within the state, federal, and military structures to make sure that military survivors where included in policy decisions and supported by the country and government for which their loved one served.

Edmee's husband was retired Army CW4 Martial R. Hills whom she met and married in Europe in the early 1950s.  In her youth, Edmee was a ballet dancer.  While at West Point, Edmee served on the Catholic Chapel altar guild, sang with the Catholic Chapel choir, and was an avid bowler and league organizer.  She also became quite immersed in the history of the US Military Academy at West Point and the surrounding Hudson Highlands.

Edmee had three children, Philip, Babette, and Catherine, and two grandsons, Griffin and Rollin.

Edmee will be missed by all who knew her.  Donations may be made in her name to VWIN continue their mission in support of veterans widows.
